Principal's Note

Parents and guardians,

It has come to my attention that we have had a couple of occasions when students have been able to purchase disposable e-cigarettes from Amazon online. They are called "Imperial Disposable Hookah." They look like a fancy decorative pen and apparently it is easy to get them online. There is a restriction that you need to be 18 years old to purchase these disposable cigarettes as they contain nicotine. However, there appears to be no other stopgap other than a dialog box popping up and asking the buyer if he or she is 18 years old. All students need is an Amazon gift card which they can easily get at Safeway and away they go with getting whatever they want online. This is just another reminder to us that it is prudent to monitor what your son or daughter might be doing online.

-Student-Led conferences on May 22

-No School on May 27 - Enjoy your Memorial Day

-Incoming 6^th grade Parent Night on May 28 at 5:30 PM

-Band Concert on May 29

-Father/Daughter Dance on May 30

-6^th/7^th grade awards assembly on June 4 at 10:30

-8^th grade awards assembly on June 5 at 10:30

-8^th grade Promotion Ceremony on June 6 at 6:00 PM

-Last day of school on June 7 (6^th and 7^th graders only). Early dismissal at 12:34.

Counseling Corner

Dear Parents,

What a fast school year it has been! Here are some end-of-the-year items for your information.....

The WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) recruitment will take place in the middle of May. All seventh graders who are interested in being WEB Leaders may apply. We usually select about 20 - 22 students. The training dates will be Monday, August 5 and Tuesday, August 6. The WEB orientation will be on Wednesday, August 7 from 8:00 - 1:00. Students must be present all three days and may not miss any part of the training or orientation. Lunch will be provided all days. Invitations will be mailed to all incoming sixth graders during the third week of June with more information.

Summer is a great time to have your students do some of their community service hours for the following year. Please encourage and monitor your student when it comes to community service to ensure that he/she is on track to complete thirty hours by the end of eighth grade. Community service is a great opportunity for your child to develop some confidence and compassion and explore interests. More information on community service, as well as some suggestions for community service projects, is available on the RLS website.

Remember to have your children read this summer!
